Core-Shell Enhanced Single Particle Model for lithium iron phosphate Batteries: Model Formulation and Analysis of Numerical Solutions

In this paper, a core–shell enhanced single particle model for lithium iron phosphate ( L mathvariant="normal">i mathvariant="normal">F mathvariant="normal">e mathvariant="normal">P mathvariant="normal">O 4 ) battery cells is formulated, implemented, and verified. Starting from the description of positive negative electrodes charge mass transport dynamics, electrode intercalation deintercalation phenomena associated phase transitions are described with modeling paradigm. Assuming two phases formed in electrode, one rich poor lithium, core-shrinking problem formulated transition modeled through shell that covers core one. A careful discretization coupled partial differential equations proposed used to convert into system ordinary equations. To ensure robust accurate numerical solutions governing equations, sensitivity analysis performed best setting, terms solver tolerances, solid concentration points, input current sampling time, determined newly developed probabilistic framework. Finally, unknown parameters identified at different C-rate scenarios verified against experimental data.
